National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
Course duration: 5 days
Intro to the course:
You will be working as part of a highly trained team to ensure the safety of swimmers. You will need to be able to antisipate problems, react, stay calm under pressure and have great customer service skills.
Working flexible hours to fit in around a pools time table it's the perfect job while you study at college or uni as you can work evenings or weekends also.
You will keep your skills fresh by attending training every month which is organised by your employer. This qualification can also be taken abroad and used in America if you're thinking of doing camp America.
Syllabus:
- Legal aspects of being a lifeguard
- Hazards and control measures
- Interventions and rescue
- Spinal injuries
- Team work
- CPR – adult, child, baby, spinal CPR, 2 person CPR
- First aid – heart attack, stroke, choking, unconsciousness, fainting, diabetes, seizures, hypothermia, heat stroke, shock, head injuries, asthma, anaphylaxis
Certificate – valid for 2 years,
Renewing the qualification – lifeguards must renew this qualification before the expiry date, they also must have evidence of 20 hours of on-going training signed off by an appropriate person.
